 Gearotic generates Lantern and Pinion Cage gears, also known as cage gears with cylindrical rods for teeth parallel to the axle and arranged in a circle around it.  The assembly is held together by disks at either end into which the tooth rods and axle are set.  Options are outer or inner ring for Lanterns with number of pins around the disk and pin diameter. It is important to remember whenever you create Lantern or Pinion gears that they are generated as a set, with the primary gear (Wheel) on the left and the secondary gear (Pinion) on the right as arbitrary designations.

  Lantern gears may be selected as a ring but with conditions. First of all the number of pins must be greater than the number of teeth on the pinion gear in order to wrap itself around the pinion.

  Lantern gears may be selected as a ring but with conditions. First of all the number of pins must be greater than the number of teeth on the pinion gear in order to wrap itself around the pinion. Center shafts of both Lantern and Pinion are separate entities and will not align to each other or attach to the same shaft as seen in. It isn’t required that you add both gears to the simulation screen but what is important is you know which button controls what gear when they are to be generated.
